Russian Art Nouveau wooden houses

You are now standing on one of the most picturesque streets of the Novy Svet district.

Many historic houses here survived without major reconstruction during the Soviet period and remain preserved today.

In the past this multicultural neighborhood was home to Belarusians, Russians, Germans and Poles, creating a rich mixture of architectural styles.

Be sure to explore the courtyards behind the houses. There you will discover small gardens, wooden sheds and gazebos that preserve the spirit of earlier times.

Particularly notable are the wooden mansions at Mickiewicza Street 7 and 9, built in the style of Russian Art Nouveau.

Another famous building here is the House with Dragons. Look carefully at the roof and you will see decorative dragon figures known locally as tsmoks.
