Wagner's house
Dzerzhinsky, 10
The Wagner House is one of the most distinctive wooden buildings in Grodno.
This elegant green house was built more than one hundred years ago by a German craftsman named Nikolai Wagner, a skilled carpenter and builder.
Although the house is wooden, one of its walls is made of stone. This is a firewall, known in German as a Brandmauer, designed to prevent the spread of fire.
Nikolai Wagner was also known as an actor in the Grodno Drama Theatre. His eccentric personality — large coats, a walking stick, and even a pet raven — made him a memorable figure in the city.
Today the building has been restored and is protected by the state as an architectural monument.
