Belinskogo Street

Belinskogo Street, known historically as Nikolayevskaya, Slavyanskaya, Krasińskiego and Brinkmann-Strasse, is a small but picturesque street of the Novy Svet district.

The corner building at Mickiewicza Street, 6 is a fine example of constructivism, which in interwar Poland was often called functionalism.

In 1932 a butcher shop belonging to the Poludni family operated here.

The shop was famous for its unusual product — “lemon sausage,” flavored with citrus peel.

Nearby, houses number 6 and 8 are excellent examples of Grodno’s traditional yellow-brick eclectic architecture.

House No. 9 on Belinskogo Street was built in the early 20th century by a well-known resident of Grodno, Nikolai Rymarchuk.

His grandson, Alexander Rymarchuk, later became a famous collector and a basketball coach. Among his students was Ivan Edeshko, who would go on to become an Olympic champion.

Another interesting detail: in the 1930s, the founder of the Grodno Natural History Museum, Stanislav Zhivno, rented an apartment in this very house. We mentioned him earlier at the beginning of our route.
