Memorial Sign “Pahonia to Grunwald”

On the lower terrace near the Neman River stands a memorial stone called “1410. Pahonia to Grunwald.”
A plaque with the historic coat of arms of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania — the Pahonia — is attached to the stone.
The monument was created by Belarusian sculptor Alexander Dranets and installed in 1990 in honor of the victory over the Teutonic Order in the Battle of Grunwald in 1410.
This victory stopped the crusader expansion and allowed the Grand Duchy of Lithuania to continue its development.
