Interior of the Church

The authentic medieval interior of the church has largely been lost.

Among the surviving elements are several icons that once decorated the eastern apse and the northern wall at the beginning of the 20th century.

The present iconostasis was created in the 1990s in the style of Belarusian folk art.

One of the benefactors who helped create it was the famous musician Vladimir Mulyavin, who often visited this church.

The church also houses the icon of the Mother of God of Kalozha, believed by many to be miraculous.

According to legend, the icon appeared in the 17th century, when an unknown beggar brought it to the monastery and asked to be buried near the church after his death.

The icon soon gained a reputation for miracles but was lost during the First World War.

Today several copies exist. One of them, dating from the early 20th century, was discovered at an auction in Germany and returned to the Kalozha church in 2019.

Fragments of 16th-century frescoes survive in a niche on the northern wall.

You can also see graffiti scratched into the plaster by an unknown visitor depicting the Holy Family along with several lines of prayer.
