Kalozha Park and the Stone Sculpture Alley

Lermontova Street leads us into a shady park created at the end of the 1950s.

The park’s original name reflected the time of its creation — Park of the 40th Anniversary of the Komsomol — a name that has now largely been forgotten. Later the park received its current name, Kalozha Park, after its most famous landmark, the nearby Kalozha Church.

The northern entrance to the park is decorated with an alley of stone sculptures, created in 2013. Belarusian sculptors drew inspiration from folk legends and national traditions when creating these works.

Nearby is the Friendship Square, where representatives of different nationalities living in Belarus planted trees to form an alley symbolizing the country’s cultural diversity and friendship among peoples.

In June 2014, during the traditional Festival of National Cultures, thirty-five trees were planted here. Among them are almond trees, tulip trees, ginkgo, magnolia, sumac, and yew.

The Belarusian diaspora is symbolized by a larch tree. You can also see a plane tree growing along the road — a species that usually thrives in warmer climates, from Crimea to Italy.
