Cathedral of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin

A Young Cathedral with a Dramatic History Built in 1904–1905 as a garrison church for the Grodno military, designed by architect Mikhail Preobrazhensky. Style: Russian-Byzantine eclecticism.
🏛 Architecture
Cross-in-square plan with five domes. Main dome on a light drum with arches.
Façades decorated with:
- arcature friezes,
- ceramic tiles,
- mosaic icon of the Virgin Mary.
Interior:
- marble floor,
- stucco decoration,
- large iconostasis,
- rich wall paintings.
🔧 Soviet Period and Revival
Closed after the Revolution; later used as:
- House of the Red Army,
- Palace of Textile Workers.
- Returned to the Orthodox Church in 1991.
Restoration (1991–1993) reconstructed domes, bell tower, paintings, iconostasis. Today it is the main Orthodox cathedral of the Grodno Diocese.
